Thousands of Donald Trump supporters wait in line to see Republican candidate, as he continues say he did not mock reporter’s disability and ‘cherishes’ the disabled

Supporters of Republican candidateDonald Trumpwere willing to wait in line for blocks to attend the presidential hopeful’s rally in Florida.Thousands of attendees of the GOP event in Sarasota on Saturday were joined by smalls groups of pro-immigrant protesters as well as an actual elephant.The large crowds came after a particularly controversial week for Trump, who was widely criticized for making fun of a reporter’s disability during a previous speech.


TheSarasota Herald Tribunereported that the venue where Trump spoke held 5,000 people, though the candidate said on Twitter that there were 12,000.Trump then gave another rally to about 1,000 people outside who could not get into the arena.His speeches touched on a variety of topics, including his Republican opponents such as Florida senator Marco Rubio.Trump, who also brought controversy when he said he would not oppose a database of Muslims living in the United States, slipped 12 points in the latest Republican polls, but still holds a lead over his GOP rivals.On Saturday he repeated a defense of himself that says he did not make fun of New York Times reporter Serge Kovaleski, who suffers from a condition called arthrogryposis that affects his arms.
